Hello, my name is Judith, I am the mother of Sarah. Sarah used to really look admiringly at the dreads worn by our neighbour, who’s from the Caribbean. Last week we visited the hairdresser together. I think it's okay but it did provoke a lot of reactions in our family.

We are Jewish. I raised Sarah in a liberal-Jewish kind of way but our family is much more conservative. We celebrate all the traditional feasts and I try to educate her about all the customs and principles as much as possible. Sarah doesn't grow up in a Jewish environment and as a result she doesn't feel very connected with the Jewish religion.

Sarah fell in love with a Moroccan boy at school and she participated with fasting in Ramadan last year. I haven't told my family this. I was raised in a conservative kind of way. At home there was a lot of conversation about the Second World War and about all the friends and family that were lost in the concentration camps. We have family in Israel. So there is a lot of talking with Sarah about the situation in Israel and Palestinian Territories.

Let's go to Netherdam with Sarah
